2013's Maiden Voyage on Lake Ontario - In search of Salmon and Trout

Finally! My first real post ever on this blog!

Just a few days ago I did manage to find some time to hit the water. The temps were rising last week during a warm spell, but then over the weekend, a cold front came in. This did not help with lake temperatures. It didn't stop me though..

I have been checking online forums to see how the reports are coming in. It seemed to have been picking up, so I decided to head out on my first trip on the big lake when the winds seemed favorable.
Originally I had planned to head out Monday morning but the winds were forecasted to be in the 20-25km/hr range. The following day seemed to be a better choice at only  10-15. So off I went for Tuesday instead.

I had invited two friends to come along. The plans were to meet up at 5:30 at my place and head down to the launch. Since it was the first trip of the year, alot of the gear was not rigged and some other nick nacks to be done. We did not get to the launch and start fishing until almost 7:30-8am.

The surface temperature was showing only 47-49 degrees F, 40-80ft down was showing 43-45 degrees. It did warm up by a degree or two throughout the morning.

Overall it was a pretty slow morning, we had 1 knockoff and 2 landed. The knockoff came at around 9:00 off a spoon at 25ft down. A 11lb chinook came in at 80ft down on a MC rocket, over approx 220 FOW.
Lastly a shaker rainbow came off a spoon at 25 down over approx 180 FOW.

Well.. hopefully it will pick up sooner than later.
