I started this blog to show everyone and to keep a record of my fishing adventures.
I named it Big Fish Small Camera because in hopes of landing large fish and capturing the moments on my array of cameras - micro 4/3 cameras and GoPro heros.
My name is Kevin. I'm born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada..
I do not consider myself a professional fisherman or photographer. I'd say more like an amateur/enthusiast.
My photographer career- Hmm.. Not really one, although I did have a bit of talent before. Back in highschool I was part of the school newspaper and yearbook. This required me to be highly involved in the school events and activities. Having been equipped with a digital camera, and not a old school film camera, I took pictures of everything and anything I could This in the end got me a couple awards - a first place finish in the Toronto star high school newspaper award for sports photography and an award during my commencement - Mickey Spillane Communications award.. which I assume was for my service during newspaper and yearbook.
Now that I am older and got some money - I have invested in a few newer cameras that take very decent pictures, while still maintaining a relative small size. The size component was important to me. I did not want to lug around a lot of camera equipment in addition to all my fishing gear.
My real passion lies with fishing. I was introduced to fishing since I could remember. I recall at a very young age, we used to wake up at 3am to take our 15ft fiberglass boat out to Bay of Quinte in Belleville. I remember catching lots of large fresh water drums and at the time for me, the very elusive pickerel.
As I grew up into young adulthood, and equipped with a driver's license, this allowed me to go fishing more frequently and become more advanced in techniques and so forth. Now I am in my mid/late 20s, I can say I have been REALLY INTO fishing for the past 8-9 years, past the newbie stage.
I do fish for almost all species and all year long.
Winter - I ice fish for perch, crappie, whitefish, lake trout and rarely walleye
Spring - I'll take the boat out for ice out crappies, fish the rivers for rainbow trout, troll the lake for salmon and trout. Maybe pike and walleye
Summer - Bass and salmon! My two favorites!
Fall - Salmon, trout, on the boat. Monster walleyes at BOQ. Fresh chrome steelhead in the rivers.
I have never fished for musky or carp. I guess those two are on the bucketlist for me..
My pride and joy is my 16' Lund, eqiupped with all the bells and whistles, however I think it needs to be two feet longer ;) I will soon need to upgrade I think.
I'll add a few photos for your enjoyment. Stay tuned to this blog :)

Hello Kevin,
ReplyDeleteI am one of your followers; compliments for your posts! I am new to Toronto, I actually live in Thornhill, and I just relocated a few months ago from Udine, north east Italy, because my wife is from Toronto.
I have a lot of passion about fishing, anyway I am a novice here, and I am searching someone who would like to give me some lessons and/or tips about this new land... (for me!)
Would you be available?
Thank you!
All the best, Enrico
