The day started at an early 3:30am. Eugene from Montreal came back to Toronto to do some business but had today to fish, so we had to head out. Eugene and Jacky arrived and we loaded up the truck and boat. The weather was forecasted to be overcast and windy, 20k winds with 40 gusts. It was right for once.
We were fishing the Kawartha Lakes again. On the water for 6:30am, throwing topwater baits. The top water wasn't working, so I start throwing my favourite bait, Berkley Havocs, at a set of docks. No fish for what seemed like a LONG time, then the first fish hit at 6:47am. There was a light tick, I set the hook and the fish started coming right over. I commented out, "Wow, smallest fish ever!". The fish dove down to some weeds. As I pull it through and towards me, I realized that It was not covered in weeds, it was infact a pretty decent fish. When it was boatside, I find out it was a really nice fish. Up and over, onto the deck, it turned out to be a nickel! 5lb 3oz, 20inch largemouth. Sweet.... Eugene got a good laugh out of this.

Not much at the docks anymore so we blasted up river. While I was still setting up, Jacky was casting towards a couple docks and got into the second fish of the day. A respectable fish..
That spot didn't last long since we didn't have any cover from the winds, so we started up the engine and moved on. Found more docks to cast at and weed mats. Not much to show for it besides this two pounder-ish. Succumbed to my havoc right after I casted it at a dock.
Since we were going to do a half day of fishing only, till noon. We made it to our last spot. A small channel with cover from the windy conditions. It was max 6 ft deep. Not a whole lot of action. But Eugene was loving it, punching through the thick stuff with the rod I lent him, a 7'2" extra heavy shimano crucial rod matched with a shimano curado 201DHSV and 50lb braid.
He was throwing around a 3/4oz with ease and distance.

The Berkley Havoc in action underwater. I just love the action of this lure, the tentacles have great action, the speed of the lure dropping, and the price of it. They cost about $3 for a pack of 8. Note the one in the picture is missing one tentacle, but it's okay, they still catch fish!

Summary.
Over cast day with quite a bit of wind, making it very hard and annoying to control the boat. The fishing action was rather slow. Only a couple topwater blow-ups with no hook ups. I only landed 4 fish, Eugene with 2 and Jacky 1. It was alright since I did get a 5lber... Maybe next trip will have to be a salmon trip.. We'll see..
